Voraz: An Exhibition on Processes, Errors, and Collaborative WorkÂ
Voraz is a collective installation of graphic pieces that showcases not finished works but rather those that reveal the working process. Curated by BelĂ©n Machado and MatĂas Duarte, it reflects on creation processes, errors, sketches, and the back-and-forth inherent in each piece.
In this second edition, Voraz was selected by the Centro Cultural Recoleta for its “Collaborative Projects” initiative, presented in the exhibition titled: “Voraz: An Exhibition on Processes, Errors, and Collaborative Work.” (September 2019 - March 2020)
Participating are collectives of graphic artists dedicated to screen printing, engraving, self-publishing (zines), and risography (a high-speed digital printing system) that conducted experimental workshops based on various prompts. The works are now displayed in a way that recreates the spirit of those workshops, entirely dismissing the notion of art as a final product and focusing on the interwoven threads and narratives of how a piece comes to be.
Visitors will find four installations mounted on the wall, connected by a color palette and various conceptual devices. These are graphic productions that play with the working prompts and showcase reproduction techniques.
The participating collectives include La Nave SerigrafĂa, Ediciones El Fuerte, and Estampa Feminista, while illustrators Juan Puerto and Florencia Pernicone led the workshops attended by participants chosen through an open call. Their works form this exhibition, revealing what is usually left unseen.
The exhibition was inaugurated as part of the 21st Biennial of Young Art at CCR. During its first month of exhibition, a publication fair day was organized with 30 projects called by Proyecto Piranha, along with an open zine table comprised of those who attended the workshops during the pre-production phase.
The challenge of this edition was to devise premises that were feasible for all workshops within a short working timeframe, imparting craft knowledge to participants who were just starting and achieving a display format that would allow for the exhibition of this collective work.
